Avastin Side Affects Reported in Off-Label Use

Genentech, Inc., manufacturer of the lung and colon cancer drug Avastin, has been linked to reports of serious eye inflammation when used “off-label” to treat wet macular degeneration, a potentially blinding eye condition.

Genentech, Inc., sent a letter on December 19th to doctors about several recent reports of intraocular inflammatory reactions that occurred after the medication was injected in lower doses to the eye, which is not an approved use of the drug.

Doctors “down under” announce important eye finding

Until now, research from the National Eye Institute and others has shown benefit to taking macular degeneration supplements after you’ve developed dry macular degeneration, but before you develop wet macular degeneration. In fact, one of the most frequent questions that we are asked is whether taking VisiVite macular degeneration vitamins is beneficial in the prevention of macular degeneration.

Our official response has been that studying whether people develop macular degeneration over several years has not been studied. So our unofficial response was to suggest, but not recommend VisiVite
