Is Less Time Equals Better Results?

Posted on April 24, 2010

Most forms of training have been passed down for decades from one generation to the next, without the inclusion of normal thought. Sometime in the 60’s sensible training programs started becoming less and less common with the rapidly growing usage of anabolic steroids. In the 60’s high volume, body part splits were the widely accepted way for everyone to train for size and strength. This type of training is not based on deductive reasoning. The supporters of these training methods will always tell you that the higher volume training is needed for hypertrophy gains. There are no studies available; saying that you need 8-12 sets per body part to grow.

The supporters of this type of training will tell you that higher volume training is associated with higher levels of growth hormone secretion. But the level of GH increase is not enough to make any difference at all because almost anything you do lift GH. The increased GH discharge from training is so minimal that it is not enough to make the slightest difference whatsoever.

For the drug free lifters training this way is a huge mistake. It does drain your amino acid pool and glycogen stores and considerably improves your recovery time between workouts. If you reduce your volume to the point where you can recover fast without draining your amino acid pool and glycogen, you can train body parts twice per week rather than once.

To train more often you need to lower your training volume. The total sets per workout should be kept low and the total sets per exercise should be kept lower. You need to hit every angle and do and endless amount of sets to stimulate every last muscle fiber.

These training programs remain popular because nobody wants to be proven wrong. Admitting your mistakes is something that most people can’t do. That’s why when something drastically different is proposed, the high volume supporters get upset.

Just do this way:

  • Cut your volume down.
  • Up your weights and intensity.
  • Get ready for what are you on questions to start rolling in.
