Do not under any conditions give infants laxatives or enemas. This can cause so much chaos in the nearest future as they do not have a body structure that can take the stress of contravening down all that quantity of chemical.
For as long as achievable, breast fed the child as this is the simplest food type that the baby can crack down.
Give plenty of water. As a newborn do not provide more than a small eye-dropper full of water. As your infant grows up and comes of age, provide a bottle of water to her to suck on all through the day. If you sense there is a need for it, add a slight Rooibos tea (cooled) to the water-bottle. Be cautious that there is no air in the bulb. After a couple of minutes, your baby must naturally have a bowel movement. Do this until contented.
Massage the baby. This straightforward and quite simple sounding act can actually ease tension and anxiety in the baby, perks up digestion, improves the development of the baby and usually helps her fight off diseases.
