Gain Muscle Weight without Getting Fat

People do fitness exercises with two main goals, to gain muscle mass or to loose body fat and both the goals are opposites of each other. To build muscle mass you require surplus calories and you can’t build muscles if you are loosing your fat. To lose fat mass, your calorie balance should be negative then only your body will burn the additional fats and you lose weight. Most weight lifters will gain some fat when they are looking to gain weight.

So the question is can you really gain weight without getting fat? In adding muscle mass, you have two approaches available:

Approach 1

Some take the approach of eating as much food as they possibly can because they think that the more food they eat, the more muscles will synthesis. This is a horrible thinking. You can get disastrous results of that because the body can digest certain amount of calories and convert them in to muscles. The remaining calories will be stored as fat in the body.

Approach 2

The second approach is a more sensible one. It tells to eat only additional calories to support the muscle growth. If you do everything correctly, you can gain about half a pound to one pound of muscle per week. So you can gain two to four pounds of muscle every month.

Generally you need to keep additional 250 to 500 calories above maintenance. You need to keep track on your body fat levels. If your weight gain comes as fat mass, reduce your calorie intake slightly.

If you spend more time with your muscle gains, you will add more muscle mass. You also have to spend less time on dieting. So take a slow approach.
