Following the Appropriate Exercises for Quick Muscle Development
Posted on January 21, 2010

After having enrolled in a gym, I very religiously followed all the machine exercises and isolation movements that everyone else there was doing, hoping these exercises would build my muscles and make me look bigger in no time!
My dad helped me get a grogram from this Italian gym owner, Tony, who uses steroids and has competed in many bodybuilding shows. Thinking this would make the difference in my training, I was ecstatic when I met him at his office. What followed seemed to be typical to that which would befall any amateur, for after asking me about my training details, he looked at my present work sheet hard and long.
He told me what I would have to do to build my body and made it clear there would be no compromises during the program. I agreed.
He jotted down a list of the exercises I had to do – concentration curls, stiff arm pullovers, cable flyes, leg extensions, whatever exercise the famous magazine body builders were shown doing, were there.
Thanking Tony, I left, feeling the next few weeks would be an incredible time, with an astounding growth resulting from this program. Or so I thought.
But nothing came off it. This is due to the fact that these exercises were not the right ones. The volume of exercise was too profound for any individual with limited ability to recover from the strain. Had he started me on the right exercises, probably I would have experienced some difference.
Working out the correct exercises is what will result in quick muscle growth. Following the wrong exercise regimen will be of no benefit at all, no matter how professionally planned out the program may be. On the contrary, a poor training program can yield results if the exercises chosen are right. Thus, it is essential to choose the right selection of exercise.
How does one choose the right exercises?
The best exercises are free weight, multi joint and compound exercises which are deadlifts, dips, squats, chin ups and overhead presses and rows, that will help build mass and allow one to use heavy weights as well. Machine and isolation workouts are the last to be used, as apart from creating a burning sensation while working out and making one feel pumped up after a work out, these workouts do not pack on muscle mass and infuse functional strength.
