The Truth Behind Cellulite Lotions and Their Marketing

Many anti cellulite lotions use keen marketing to suggest that their “secret” blend of key ingredients is a special potion to get rid of cellulite for good. Marketing aside, there is no lotion, cream or gel to my knowledge that can actually melt away fat that’s underneath the skin. At best what cellulite lotions can do is reduce the appearance of cellulite dimples on your thighs and buttocks.

It is the dimples that make people feel self conscious so in a way these creams are getting rid of cellulite, but the way some products word their marketing and websites can lead women to a different conclusion if they don’t read the fine print.

How They Really Work

Most anti cellulite creams contain caffeine or some form of stimulant. Unfortunately you cannot get the same results by just drinking more coffee. In order to achieve the benefits of caffeine on cellulite it must be applied topically in order for it to take action.

Cellulite is pockets of fat below the skins surface that are pushed up against the skin and then separated by connective tisssues which cause the dimpled look. Because cellulite is just below the skin circulation to the area is poor so this reduces the nutrients getting to the area and slows the metabolic pathways as well.

Caffeine stimulates blood flow to the area temporarily after applied which boosts those metabolic pathways helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite dimples on the surface.

Along with caffeine most cellulite lotions contain natural ingredients which firm and tone the skin as well. Ingredients such as horsetail extract, Shea butter and Retinol A all work to soften and tone the skin.

Think if you could pull your skin on either side of your cellulite. Effectively this would stretch out the skin and you wouldn’t be able to see the dimples any more. Cellulite creams sort of like that except instead of stretching your skin they tone and firm it so cellulite pressing up against it isn’t as apparent.

Do They Work?

Unfortunately not all cellulite creams are created equal. For everyone that produces worth while results there’s another four or five that don’t seem to do anything. I’d suggest avoiding the $10 drug store brands as they’re usually just glorified skin moisturizers. Look for products that contain the key ingredients discussed above as well as offer a guarantee.

Buying skin care products that offer a guarantee ensure that if you’re not satisfied with the results you’re financial loss is minimal. Products worth considering are Revitol cellulite cream, Niveas cellulite lotion, Murad’s firm and tone cream and Cellex-c cellulite cream.
