Hoodia gordonii, the latest buzz in weight loss industry is a succulent cactus-like plant found in the sand dunes in the South Africa, Angola, Botswana and Namibia. They act straight to the Hypothalamus, a part of the brain secretes various hormones and controls several functions of our body including our appetite. When p57 acts to the Hypothalamus, it sends a message that the level of blood sugar is high enough. This is an example of Glucostatic mechanism of weight reduction. In several in vitro studies of a derivative of p57, the p57AS3, it showed that there is increased level of ATP in the Hypothalamus. This is the main cause of feeling of satiety.
Only pure Hoodia gordonii from the South African plants have the active ingredient. There are numerous websites selling Hoodia.
