The common skin disease, acne vulgaris, affects almost majority of the people during their life time. At some stage in adolescence, acne vulgaris is more regular in males than in females and during the period of adulthood, it is seen more commonly in women when compared to men. It affects the areas like face, shoulders, upper part of the chest, and back. It is seen commonly in teenagers at the time of puberty and will decrease or disappear at the twenties and there is not a fixed period for the disappearance.

First let us see what the disease is all about. Acne vulgaris affects the oil glands of the skin. The pores or small holes in the skin are linked with the oil glands beneath the skin, which create an oily material known as sebum. The pores are attached to the glands by a duct known as follicle, and in the follicles, the dead skin cells are carried by the oil to the outside of the skin. Slight hair also nurture through the follicle and finally to the outside of the skin. A pimple is formed when the follicle of a skin gland is blocked. Sometimes pimples cause scars.

Although acne vulgaris appears commonly during adolescence, it also appears at other times in one’s life particularly among the time of hormonal changes. The bacteria are always present in the normal skin, so resistance to disease is important. Through cleanliness and nutrition, the disease can be defended.

Though there are umpteen numbers of treatments for acne, only homeopathy treats the person entirely. Homeopathy treatment for acne vulgaris is natural, efficient and secure. The homeopathic medicines are chosen only after a detailed analysis of the person which includes medical history, physical and mental condition. Even patients with same illness are treated differently. Therefore, consultation with an experienced homeopath is unavoidable.

Homeopathic physicians usually advise to take one dose and wait for a reaction to occur, and if any development is seen, they advice to keep on waiting till the medicine works fully. A second dose may be taken only if improvement is notably delayed. The dosage depends on the condition of the patient. In certain cases, repetition of a dose on close intervals is required while in some other cases, a dose a day may be sufficient.

Teenagers are likely to be affected by acne vulgaris due to the hormonal changes of the age. People with oily skin are likely to be affected by acne. Taking surplus of oily food, unhealthy face cleaning, cosmetics, constipation, pollution are some of the causes of acne vulgaris. Through homeopathic treatment, one can reduce acne according to the type of their skin.
