People get rashes all the time on their body from various sources. It could be a reaction to food or something you put on your face. It could be the effect of dry skin or severe wind, but really, rashes could be from anything. However, serious rashes do occur when you contract various infections, and one infection to look out for is MRSA or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureu.
A rash is one of the most basic signs of contracting the incredibly contagious MRSA staph infection. The rash becomes very red and painful and swollen. With the rash comes various bumps that look like pimples or spider bites on or around the effected area. Many of these bumps or pimples have pus or other drainage. These bumps can quickly turn into deep abscesses that often require various surgical draining methods. Even after the draining or the removal of these bumps, the bacteria can remain confined to the skin.
However the infection can also burrow deep in the body, causing potential life-threatening infections in other parts of the body like your bones, joints, blood stream, heart valves and lungs. This can lead to other diseases like toxic shock syndrome and necrotizing pneumonia. However this serious rapid spread of the infection is more likely to be caused by the community associated form of the strand rather than the hospital associated form.
Treatment of MRSA is a little bit tricky because it has developed and immunity to certain antibiotics. MRSA still respond to certain medications. In hospitals and care facilities, doctors generally rely on the antibiotic vancomycin to treat resistant germs. However, some hospitals are seeing some resistance to vancomycin in people who have contracted MRSA.
In order to combat resistance, doctors often drain the bumps and abscesses, rather than treat the MRSA infection with drugs. It is incredibly important that when you contract a rash similar to the MRSA rash that you cover it as soon as possible and then talk to your doctor about the best options in treating the MRSA infection.
