Motivation Tips

- Ways to Stay Motivated During Your DietOkay, so we all know dieting isn’t fun. And it can be so hard to stay motivated, especially if there is temptation around every corner. But here are 15 helpful hints for staying inspired and upbeat during the hard times.
- Spice It UpWhen you think of diet foods, you don’t always think of the best tasting foods. One way you can be on an enjoyable diet is to try a meal delivery service such as ChefsDiet, where your food is prepared for you and delivered to your door. If you will be preparing your own food, try cooking with different spices and herbs such as garlic, dill, or basil to add flavor and taste.
- Begin With a Specific GoalHow can you find your way anywhere without directions? With a particular weight loss goal, you will be more likely to stick to your plans. Don’t start off your diet by saying “I want to lose a few pounds” because once you lose one or two, you will lose motivation and give up.
- Ask for SupportIsn’t everything always more fun with friends? Dieting is the same way! Get a group of your friends together to help and motivate each other. Okay, so if none of your friends want or need to diet (those skinny bitches!) ask them for their help and support while you go through it. Let your friends and family know what you are doing, and they will help you the best ways they know how.
- Get New ClothingSome people may agree, the best part about losing weight is looking great. And buying new clothes to fit your new and fabulous look is so much fun! During your diet, put away a small amount of money every week or month to save just for new clothes. Once you reach your targeted weight loss goals, you will be surprised at how much money you have saved. Get that cash and go shopping, you deserve it!
- Do Something DifferentWhen losing weight, you will most likely have a lot more energy then you had before. Use this extra energy to do something you have been meaning to do for quite some time but never had a chance or the energy to do. How about picking up rollerblading or rock climbing? Anything that you can do to reward yourself as well as make you feel great will put you one step closer to your weight loss goals.
- Schedule Routine ExerciseMaking time to exercise is hard, we know. In order to find time to work out, create a schedule to follow. Be specific about days and times, even if it is just once a week! Mark the dates on your calendar or enter them in an organizer. Stick to these appointments as you would a doctor’s appointment, business meeting, or a date with friends. Once you get into a routine, the easier it will be for you to stick to.
- Build a Support SystemFriends, family, and even professional services can be there to support you when you need it most. Inquire about services of life coaches, dietitians, or personal trainers to help you along your journey. Search on the internet for message boards or chat rooms to speak with others about dieting. Even newsletters can boost you up when you are feeling down—whatever works for you! It can be comforting to know that you are not the only one having difficulties and that there are plenty others going through the same thing.
- Reward YourselfEveryone deserves a little positive feedback! If you eat great for the whole week straight, for example, give yourself a little treat. Go buy that shirt you have been wanting, or perhaps a night out to the movies. Whatever it is, you earned it!
- Punish YourselfOkay, if the above doesn’t work (you are very, very bad!), don’t give up just yet! Try penalizing yourself. Ask for help from your friends or family members—every time you backtrack on your diet or break your exercise routine, give that person a dollar. Hopefully, after a few dollars have been sacrificed, you will have learned your lesson!
- Post Motivational MessagesConstantly telling yourself that you will never be able to succeed doesn’t exactly work wonders for your self esteem. Instead, buy a pack of colorful Post-its and write fun phrases on them, such as “you look wonderful!”, “keep up the good work”, or “only 5 more pounds to go.” Post them places you see a lot, such as on your computer at work or your refrigerator at home. Try it—it’s like having your own personal cheerleader!
- Hypnotize YourselfIn your mind, think about how you want to look or feel after you have reached your weight loss goals. Actually envision how you plan on looking. There is a reason that you started this diet, and don’t let yourself forget what that reason is.
- Set Small and Reachable Goals for YourselfIf your weakness is chocolate (and let’s face it, whose isn’t?), then at first limit yourself to one chocolate bar a week. After that, cut it down to half a chocolate bar a week. Then, yea you get the idea. Soon you will only be eating chocolate occasionally. Give yourself a new goal once every few weeks, and before you know it, all your bad food habits will be a thing of the past!
- Take One Day at a TimeWhen you wake up in the morning, don’t overwhelm yourself. Tell yourself all you have to do is eat healthy or complete your goals for that day. Then, the next morning, do it all over again. Instead of looking into the future and worrying about two weeks from now, just take it day by day.
- Keep a Food JournalRecord what you eat, your moods, and how you are feeling. Not only will this give you a chance to keep track of your eating habits, but it will also help you to understand the relationship between food and moods. You just might be able to uncover something about yourself that you didn’t know and use that to motivate yourself. And remember, no one has to see what you write except for you!
- The Back-Up PromisesOkay, so none of these above tips have been working for you. Make a list of a few goals that you must promise yourself to keep. These promises should be very easy and doable for you, such as eat one extra vegetable with dinner every night, or walk the dog for an extra ten minutes every day. As every little bit counts, even these steps will bring you one step closer to your goals.
