Understanding spastic colon symptoms is critical to identifying this rather common and painful condition. Of course, it goes without saying that by being able to identify the problem one take the proper steps necessary to eliminating the complications that derive from possessing the condition.

A spastic colon is a disorder that exists in the large intestines (bowels) and is the underlying reason why the bowels may not be working properly or effectively. This is a chronic condition that is quite common and it is easily identified by the most common symptoms which are gas, constipation or diarrhea and frequent pain in the lower abdominal region. Needless to say, this is a very uncomfortable condition to contend with. It is critical to note that the abdominal pain associated with a spastic colon is sharp and occurs at frequent intervals. Sometimes this pain is also accompanied by cramps and other stomach distresses such as vomiting and nausea. Additionally, it is not uncommon to have to contend with severe bloating.

While many people will have the desire to self diagnose the condition (or, worse, opt to convince themselves that they do not have the condition) it is a far better option to seek the advice of a health care practitioner who is more than capable to properly make the diagnosis. Making such a diagnosis may involve a series of tests and these tests are critical to properly determine which condition the patient may have. Keep in mind, the potential to be suffering from a condition worse than a spastic colon is possible so self diagnosis would not be the wisest option.

Again, understanding spastic colon symptoms is critical to determining whether or not you may have the condition. Of course, self diagnosis is not always the best option and that is why seeking a qualified physician’s opinion is far more preferable.
