How To Get A Six Pack By Building Mental Toughness Into Your Workouts

The key thought behind the term “workout program” is that you have to “work” it out. No matter how “state of the art” your gym equipment is, and no matter how trendy and convenient the workout program is, fat is not going to leave, and muscle is not going to arrive, until you work it out.

You must accept the fact that working out is an activity that requires extreme effort. That is of course only if you want extreme results. And honestly, deep down, you know how to get rid of fat. You know how to build muscle. And you know how to get a six pack . OK so maybe you don’t know how. But you at least know how to find out! One search on google will bring you hundreds of workout programs to choose from. Hundreds of diets to choose from. Proof that the problem is not lack of a good program as much as it is lack of inspiration!

Now I think (and this is just my opinion), that the reason there are so many programs available today is that people are constantly looking for the program that requires the least amount of time and effort. I am the same way. It’s human nature to take the path of least resistance. “Just plug it in for ten minutes a day and lose two pounds a day until you have the body of your dreams”. I know that sounds ridiculous but in reality that is kind of what sells these days.

But if you check out some of the ads you may find the most obvious thing that is missing in the physical fitness product world is the emphasis on hard work. To get a six pack takes hard work. Think about it. It has to be this way! If it was easy, everyone would have it and it would not be so cool. The beautiful thing about having the body of your dreams is that it demonstrates to the world that you are a high energy, life-filled person. You are someone who is willing to pay the price for the good life and it shows.

A lean ripped body is an outward image of an inward attitude that is highly attractive to other people. You can not have that for free. No one can give it to you. In fact you can’t have it for money. You must work for it until it becomes your reward. It requires mental toughness. That’s a good thing. It takes inner drive and ambition. The kind of drive and ambition that gets you out of bed in the morning looking forward to take on the world and all of the resistance it is going to throw at you this day. You attack life and it gives you what you want, not what circumstances dictate.

So when I say that building muscle and burning fat is hard work, you have to understand it in a the positive sense of the word “work”. Work is rewarding. It is fulfilling. Work increases life. But I have to qualify all of this by saying this: It can still be easy to do. Because when your mind is right…and you are not mentally resisting the idea of work to gain increase, you begin to think like a champion. Once you win the battle in your mind, your body will follow.

A champion knows that his or her effort is never in vain. A champion knows that he is one in a thousand. And every moment he spends moving toward his goal, moves him further away from the crowd. It will always bring a crown of victory. And that “knowing” becomes the driving force that makes the work easier. It is easier because every drop of sweat, and every sore muscle is physical proof that he is paying the price and must not be denied the fruit of his labor.

So, to sum it up, do I believe that working out must be grueling? Am I saying that it will be unpleasant and require hours a day, every day in order to be effective? Absolutely not. What I am saying is that when you learn to embrace the challenge, and when you get excited about “resistance training” (instead of “resisting” training), because you know it is changing the shape of your body every day, then you will have the body you want in about twelve weeks. And you won’t have to spend even an hour a day in the gym for more than five or six days a week. And then you won’t ever want to give in to mental resistance again!
