In Theo Colborn’s book “Our Stolen Future”, it is written that, reproductive damage is caused by Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and endocrine-disrupting chemicals from plastics used everyday.
In the studies it was found that common chemicals like alcohol and pesticides in food, cause damage to the sperms, due to which children suffer from lowered intelligence and behavioral disorders.
Lifestyle habits like cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, chronic stress and nutritional deficiencies are the risk factors known to decrease sperm quality. Health conditions like prostatitis and diabetes also affect sperm production. Besides all these factors, pollution is a major factor responsible for increased rate of male infertility. Persistent environmental toxins have many adverse effects on male fertility.
If a person smokes, drinks or is exposed to stress, chemicals, radiation and pesticides or take medicines affecting fertility, he should consider taking an antioxidant supplement to reverse some of the damage that is caused.
In various researches conducted it was found that, antioxidants like glutathione are beneficial in treating male infertility and improving sperm counts, sperm morphology and motility. Glutathione in particular can help to increase the possibility of chances of conceiving.
Glutathione peroxides enzymes play a very important role in the defense against oxidative damage in human sperm.
Importance of Glutathione for Sperm Quality and Fertility:
Infertile men are found to have significantly higher levels of ROS and lower levels of total antioxidants. Due to this, 40% of men with unexplained male infertility have higher levels of free radical activity in their bodies.
Also, a low level of glutathione during sperm production is believed to cause a disorder in the membrane integrity of spermatozoa, if there is an increased oxidative stress.
A sperm’s life span, motility and ability to penetrate the oocyst, or egg cell, reduce due to oxidative stress. Therefore, lower levels of antioxidants like glutathione are correlated with reduced sperm movement.
Studies suggested that treatment for infertile men should involve strategies to reduce oxidative stress and improve the sperm quality.
Role of Glutathione in the Treatment of Infertility:
Glutathione is not only essential for sperm antioxidant defenses, but also for selenium and formation of “phospholipids hydro peroxide glutathione peroxides” - an enzyme present in spermatids - which develops into a structural protein in the mid-piece of mature spermatozoa. Deficiencies of these substances lead to instability of the mid-piece of the spermatozoa, which results in defective motility.
Glutathione, which is a free radical hunter and destroyer, is used to restore the structure and function of poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in the cell membrane and can be used to treat the cases of male infertility.
In the studies it was found that glutathione has a statistically significantly positive effect on sperm and sperm morphology.
The conclusion of these studies indicated that glutathione therapy could represent a possible therapeutical tool in cases where exposure to toxins or ROS is the probable cause of infertility.
MaxGXL is a glutathione supplement which helps the cells of the body to increase the glutathione production in a natural manner. MaxGXL has been proven to increase the glutathione levels on an average of 250%
