Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT for short is a psychotherapeutic tool based on the theory that the negative emotions would be caused by the disturbances in the body’s energy field and that the tapping on the meridians would keep thinking of the negative emotion which alters the body’s energy field, it then restores the balance to it.

EFT was made by Gary Craig in the 1990’s. It was meant to be a simple and improving of the Roger Callahan’s thought field therapy techniques.

The EFT can claim that it will relieve a lot of mental and physical conditions, this includes depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, general stress, addictions, and phobias. There are more extreme claims that have been made for the cure of multiple sclerosis and one of the proponent claims that you can also use it for everything from the common cold to cancer.

The simple EFT technique starts with holding a disturbing memory or emotion in your mind and together using your fingers to tap on a series of 12 certain points on your body that will correspond to the meridians which is used in the Chinese medicine. The thought behind EFT is the negative emotions is caused by the disturbances in the body’s energy field and that tapping on the meridians will stop the thinking of the negative emotion that of which alters the body’s energy field, and restoring the balance.

The thought process states that the negative emotions were built in stages, these include, a negative experience occurs, negative emotions are felt in response to this negative experience, then it leads to inappropriate programming of inside the body; it then sends the body’s energy system and gets disrupted due to these negative emotions. The assertion of the EFT is in order to remove the negative responses, which tackles the negative experience but is usually not enough, because it can’t correct the energy imbalance. So the energy imbalance must be corrected along with the curing of the negative emotions.

In EFT, the order and sequence of the majority of the tapping points can said that they are unimportant, so there are no individual algorithms for different problems. Instead, a comprehensive algorithm is used for all problems, and no diagnosis or muscle testing is required.
